On days without meaning, without direction -- all of them? -- I sometimes ask myself, "which way should my chakras be aligned?" We all do, right? Right? Well, we aren't so unlike the vertices in a somewhat large graph so perhaps the easier thought-experiment to begin with is that of vertices (in an undirected graph) asking themselves, "which way ought my edges to point?"
In this talk we hope to get a sense of the following: should the vertices fail to look far enough, they are doomed to fail in their ultimate quest -- that of finding a sinkless orientation.
