REU Program Application Instructions
Review of applications will begin January 31
DIMACS is in the process of updating the online application form to make it easier to process your REU application. This new application form page should be ready and activated by the first or second week of December. We are interested in receiving your application, but we ask that you wait and re-visit the site, once the new application form webpage is activated, to submit your application materials. Until then, please work on preparing your personal statement, letter of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts so that you are ready to upload them once the new webpage is available. The questions on the form will be exactly the same as they appear on the current application web-form. If you have any questions, please contact reu@dimacs.rutgers.edu.Applicants should be undergraduates with a major in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field. They should be current juniors (graduating in the academic year following the REU), although sophomores with exceptionally strong backgrounds as well as seniors will be considered. Due to funding agency rules, only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to receive stipends and support for housing and travel costs under the DIMACS, DIMACS/DIMATIA, and Mathematics programs; however, foreign students enrolled at a U.S. university are eligible under the CCICADA program. Women, minorities, and students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

To apply via the web pages, fill out the application form and click "send" at the end of the document. Then email (or send through regular mail to the address above) your personal statement, your transcripts, and a letter of recommendation to reu@dimacs.rutgers.edu.

Application Checklist

- APPLICATION FORM, including information that we need to contact you.
- TRANSCRIPT (current transcript, unofficial okay, with grades through Fall of this year).
- SHORT STATEMENT (One page or less) explaining why you are interested in the program, what you hope to get out of it, and describing your academic and non-academic interests.
- RECOMMENDATION LETTER from a faculty member (or graduate teaching assistant), preferably in mathematics or computer science, who can discuss your potential to successfully complete a research project. If the letter is included with the application, the recommender should seal it in a separate envelope. Include the name, phone, and email address of the faculty member on your application.
