During the first 2 weeks of the summer of 2001, teachers will participate in a Graph Theory course emphasizing applications. There will also be workshops for researchers and all-institute activities, focused on issues of interest to both teachers and researchers. All participants will work with software relevant to discrete mathematics. Teachers will be introduced to the process of Mathematical research through a "First Research Experience".
During the second 2 weeks of the summer of 2001, teams of teachers and mentors will collaborate on research projects and develop classroom materials. These activities will continue for two weeks during the summer of 2002.
During the 2001-2002 academic year, there will be classroom visits by mentors and/or participants. Each participant and student(s) will report on classroom activities at a conference in spring 2002.
The Education Program will be led by experienced college and university faculty and high school lead teachers-in-residence.
