Announcement

Real-time applications on the Internet are becoming increasingly popular and commercial. Examples of these include packetized audio enabled by the numerous Internet telephony software packages, packetized video, electronic commerce, computer telephony, web-searching, and other web-based applications. The success of these applications will depend upon a variety of factors including performance, quality of service, cost, security, etc. The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts to address issues impacting the performance of real-time applications on the Internet. Both theoretical and applied papers are of interest. Primary areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  1. Performance issues of packetized audio and video applications
  2. Internet performance measurements such as packet loss and delays
  3. Tools to measure Internet performance and analyze data
  4. Internet traffic data and characterization
  5. Real-time protocols and their performance
  6. Quality of Service metrics and guarantees
  7. Systems engineering issues such as performance requirements
  8. Load-balancing schemes
  9. Bandwidth Reservation Schemes and related issues
  10. Audio and Video compression mechanisms
  11. Customer-perceived Audio and Video quality
  12. Experiences with developing end-user software that enables real-time applications
