Presented under the auspices of the DIMACS Special Year on Large Scale Discrete Optimization and the DIMACS Special Year on Networks.

An efficient and effective logistics system is the key to being competitive in todays global marketplace. This realization has fueled an enormous interest in new technology for designing and operating logistics systems. Discrete optimization frequently is an integral part of such technology.

This workshop brings together leading researchers in the fields of discrete optimization and logistics and presents state-of-the-art research in the area of large-scale discrete optimization in logistics. Application domains that will be covered include network design, production planning, vehicle routing, and crew scheduling. Both exact and heuristic solution approaches will be presented.

The workshop is intended for anybody interested in discrete optimization or logistics, from industrial practicioners to academic researchers. Ph.D. students and post-docs are also encouraged to attend. There will be five or six one hour invited lectures on Monday and Tuesday and four on Wednesday. This will leave ample time for informal discussion and interaction among the participants. In addition, evening discussion sessions will be organized around themes of general interest to the participants.
